British Gypsum is extracting Gypsum from the entrance to the mine at Fauld. The production will eventually reach the Rangemore end of the parish although a geological fault crossing east-west in the vicinity of 5 Lane Ends may make mining under the parish uneconomic. Planning permission for extraction exists across the parish except within 50ft of existing buildings. Extraction would be dependent upon the Rangemore Estate coming to a commercial agreement that would license British Gypsum to extract from the mineral rights belonging to the Rangemore Estate.
The extraction process involves digging out huge caverns about 300 ft below ground but leaving pillars of gypsum at regular intervals to support the land above.
